Matthew 25: 35-40
35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’
37 “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’
40 “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’
Today my pastor read this verse after discussing with us about how God had moved him to start investing time and money in a poor village in Guatemala. After going on my first missions trip to Nicaragua I can fully understand his want to help people who don’t have it as good as us here in America. Missions trips are awesome opportunities to share Jesus’ love with people who don’t necessarily get to hear or experience it, but you don’t have to go on some missions trip to a foreign country to show Jesus’ love to people (unless God has called you to be in a foreign country at the time). Showing love to a homeless person in your city by giving him some cash for food or just talking with an old lady down the street is showing God’s love. Being a servant out of love is the most amazing thing because that’s when you start to become more like Jesus. When you humble yourself and become the hands and feet of God you are showing them love. There’s nothing that the Father delights in more is when His children go out and help those who are hurting because He says, “Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.”
